Bates Legacy Center Seeks Former Students and Supporters for Quilting Project

The Wiley H. Bates Legacy Center invites the public to participate in the Bates Legacy Center Story Telling Quilt Project! The Center is developing six Documentary Story Quilts as part of a project funded in part by a FY2023 Maryland Heritage Areas Authority (MHAA) Grant. There have been two quilt planning sessions to date and the third has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 11 at 4 p.m. at the Bates Legacy Center, 1101 Smithville Street, Annapolis. All are invited!

The six quilts planned will group graduating classes together by decade (1930’s, 1940’s, 1950’s and 1960’s), as well as a quilt about the life of Wiley H. Bates, and a thematic quilt still to be determined.

Calling all Former Bates Students! The project planners are calling for additional participants to bring their photos and memorabilia of their years at the school to the meetings to be shared. They want to hear from former Class Presidents, those who have saved their yearbooks and copies of the Chronicle, and anyone who has photos and memorabilia from the school (see the list below). A future “scanning day” is planned so that digital scans can be made of materials to be included.
