Annapolis Port Marker Installation

The Annapolis Port Marker is on its way! Having met all mandatory approvals to include the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) of the City of Annapolis Historic District, the UNESCO “Port Marker Project” is moving forward.

In 2012 Middle Passage Ceremonies and Port Marker Project (MPCPMP) performed a Libation Ceremony at the Kunta Kinte/Alex Haley Memorial to designate Annapolis, MD as one of numerous sites in North America participating in human trafficking during the transatlantic/triangular slave trade.

During Black History Month 2022, 10 years after MPCPMP’s recommendation, the City of Annapolis will raise the UNESCO Port Marker during a community “Port Marker Ceremony” under the direction of the Annapolis Port Marker Committee. The Marker will be installed at Susan Campbell Park, Annapolis City Dock. This event is free to attend.

Decorative Arts Tour

Historic Annapolis is proud to possess a fine decorative arts collection. A traditional guided tour of the William Paca House offers peeks at some of these objects, but do you want to know more? Then this tour is for you! Join HA’s Curator of Collections, Robin Gower, for a special after-hours, curator-led tour of the William Paca House that offers a keen focus on the details of our special collections.

Advance registration required; space is limited. Cost: $25 General Admission; $20 for HA Members and Docents.

Odenton Heritage Society November Open House

  • Location: Odenton Heritage Society Historical Center, 1367 Odenton Road, Odenton

Three jewels of the Odenton Historic District, all listed on the National Register of Historic Places, will
share the spotlight in a photo display at the Odenton Heritage Society open house on Sunday, November
6, 2022.   Longtime community centers in the west Anne Arundel railroad town, the 1917 Citizens State
Bank, 1918 Epiphany Chapel and Church House, and 1912 Old Masonic Hall also reflect Odenton’s
importance during World War I, when soldiers at nearby Camp Meade brought new demands to the home front.

An educational museum scavenger hunt will be available for young visitors.  Hours at the open
house are from 1 pm to 4 pm.  Admission to the OHS Historical Center, located at 1367 Odenton Road, is
free.
