A Special Appeal to Our Stakeholders

To our Stakeholders, We are grateful for all you do to contribute to the vibrancy and sustainability of the Four Rivers Heritage Area. With your collaboration this past year, we brought an unprecedented number of grants to our heritage partners (12 state grants and 8 mini-grants), and continued a robust schedule of programs and projects. We offered several workshops, including one focused on diversifying the heritage narratives at our museums and sites. We raised awareness about the quality of local heritage experiences, and we shared best practices with colleagues. But none...

Maryland Heritage Areas Authority Makes a Big Change to Broaden Access to Funding for Applicants

Our colleague, Ennis Barbery Smith, has shared this recent article she published on the MHT Blog: At its July 2020 meeting, the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority (MHAA) made a substantial change to matching fund requirements, eliminating the longstanding 75% cash match requirement for all MHAA grants. Instead, MHAA will accept any combination of cash and in-kind match to fulfill the one-to-one matching requirement going forward. This change means that organizations are permitted to match MHAA grants with primarily volunteer time and donated services and materials, if that form of match makes sense for the proposed project. Importantly, MHAA staff and the local heritage areas hope that this change will...

Check Out the New Murals in the Heritage Area

Lately, we’ve been excited to watch Annapolis becoming more colorful with the addition of new murals and public art.  During this time of social distancing, several new projects have helped to bring our community closer together, and even into the national spotlight. The first is by Annapolis local artist Comacell Brown, who designed a mural dedicated to Carlester Smith, Annapolis’s legendary “Walking Man,” known for his fast-walking and trash-collecting activities along local streets for decades, stretching back some 40 years. Located on the side wall of Pinkey’s Liquors in outer West...
