September Sunsets Concerts with High & Wides

Back Creek Nature Park 7300 Edgewood Road, Annapolis, MD, United States

The High & Wides, like the large-haul trains for which the band is named, project a big, driving sound—mountain musical traditions re-imagined for a new century. Formed on Maryland’s Eastern Shore in 2015, they write music about arson and hourly motels, dystopian love songs, and ballads of violent history.

The High & Wides draw from their members’ extensive backgrounds in bluegrass and take the music to a place all their own, recalling an era when old-time, rockabilly, and proto-rock’n’roll coexisted in a murky soup of hillbilly string band music.

September Sunsets Concerts With Higher Hands

Back Creek Nature Park 7300 Edgewood Road, Annapolis, MD, United States

Higher Hands
Funky Soul Fusion with a Twist of Rhyme.

Hailing from Maryland’s capital city, the band has firmly established their reputation throughout the DMV for a tight live set and an ability to improvise with the best. With a fresh line-up and a clearly matured approach to songwriting, the sophomore record is servin up more of that signature sound, defined by funk and steeped in soul. The beats are head noddin’ and the solos skilled. No question, Higher Hands have the chops to strut their stuff both live and in the studio. This is fusion, updated and flavored by hip-hop, afrobeat, and DC Go Go music.

September Sunsets Concert Series With Swamp Candy

Back Creek Nature Park 7300 Edgewood Road, Annapolis, MD, United States

Swampcandy is an internationally touring, primitive blues influenced Americana duo. Ruben Dobbs’ aggressive finger-picking and rhythmic style (which often adds up to sounding like more than one guitar) combined with Joey Mitchell’s bass playing, pounding kick drum and percussive bass throttling (representing the presence of a full drum kit) easily fill up the sonic space normally created by a trio or even a four-piece. Dobbs’ soulful, passionate vocals are the glue that holds it all together and makes the band tick.
