In this 60-minute program for children, we will learn about a 1783 flag designed by Annapolis cabinet maker John Shaw as well as flag designs from colonial America, the American Revolution, and the early United States. Children will listen to a story about American flags and then will have the opportunity to create a flag of their own design. Space is limited, reservations are required. $15 per child/ $10 per member’s child.

The Hammond Harwood House is home to one of Maryland’s oldest domestic clocks.  Attributed to clockmaker John Ebsworths, this remarkable clock was made between 1660 and 1680. Constructed before the use of a pendulum was widespread, it was modified to keep up with horological advances of the time. Explore the Hammond-Harwood House’s collection of nine elaborate clocks from the 17th, 18th, and early 19th centuries. The tour begins with an in-depth history of timekeeping from sundials to Chinese water clocks. The invention of the pendulum in the 17th century modernized horological devices and a rising artisan class created clocks for elite and middle-class markets as consumer demand expanded. Highlights include selected works from the special exhibit ”Ambition: Charles Willson Peale in Annapolis” as well as an 1835 Rembrandt Peale painting of George Washington and a rare landscape scene by James Peale.

The Hammond-Harwood House Museum and Chase Home invite guests to a two-hour tour that explores the two architectural treasures in downtown Annapolis. The tour will cover the interior of the Hammond-Harwood House and the gardens of the Chase Home. On this cemetery tour, visitors will discover the fascinating lives of the men and women who called the Hammond-Harwood House home.
