The Annearrundell County Free School was established by the Colonial Assembly almost 300 years ago.  Each of the then twelve existing counties in the state were expected to build a one-room schoolhouse with taxpayer money going for the purchase of the land and building of the schoolhouse.  Students paid a tuition and one of the school's most celebrated students was Johns Hopkins.
