The first of a series of highly interactive workshops. Having Difficult Conversations about Race: Part 1 focuses on developing conversation skills including, active listening; compassionate confrontation; and clarifying common, but complex terms such as racism, prejudice, and discrimination. The workshop includes: games, visual arts, theatre, and conversations enabling participants to develop the communication skills to have difficult conversations in everyday settings. Chesapeake songster Janie Meneely and guitar-playing balladeer Rob van Sante will join forces with West & Rhode Riverkeeper Jeff Holland and friends for an evening of music from the Bay and Beyond. The Galesville Heritage Society 2018 Speaker Series begins with members of the village sharing their memories of the James Adams Floating Theater. Before TV or driving to the movies, the annual visit of the showboat brought music and theater to the residents of West River.

Speaker: Tuck Hines, SERC director and marine biologist In this talk, Tuck Hines will give an overview of some of the Chesapeake's most iconic species, including oysters, blue crabs, striped bass, menhaden and river herring. Despite their vastly different life cycles and fisheries, this talk shows a consistent historical pattern, and points to the key for restoration and sustainable management.
