Two hundred fifty years ago, James Brice began building his Annapolis mansion, which still dominates the intersection of East and Prince George Streets. During the Revolutionary War, he served as Captain of the city militia and Lieutenant of the county militia, positions that earned him the honorary title “Colonel.” But James wasn’t the only Colonel in the Brice family; his younger brother, Edmund, a professionally-trained artist, was named a Lieutenant Colonel by Congress at the request of the Marquis de Lafayette.
