Captain Avery Museum is preparing its 26th annual oyster festival, with this year’s waterfront gathering featuring good community company, fine regional music, an array of choice gifts for purchase, 50/50 raffle, local food and drink and the best oysters anywhere. Come out for the festival and fundraiser — winner in the past of the prestigious Best of the Bay award for Community Events — Saturday Oct. 14, from 12:30-5, on Captain Avery’s broad green lawn on the banks of the West River in Shady Side. The National Ballet Company returns in December for their delightful, family-friendly performance of The Nutcracker. The audience will be treated to a two-act, mini ballet featuring the Sugar Plum Fairy, Clara, the Mouse King, and the Nutcracker Prince. Guests will enjoy tea, cocoa, and an assortment of holiday treats and sweets. Following the presentation, expect a visit from Santa, too! Members: $25 per seat Non-members: $35 per seat

Holiday Wine Pull and Fundraiser

Enjoy live music, dancing, hors d'oeuvres, and spirits to celebrate the holiday season. Participate in the optional wine pull fundraiser to take home a festively decorated surprise bottle of wine. All money raised goes towards museum operations and our community-based programs. What is a wine pull? Guests pay $20 to select a mystery bottle of wine. The wines vary in price but are no less than $20. The bottles are wrapped up in festive paper, so you don't know what you'll get. Enjoy the wine at your own holiday table...
