Virtual Lecture – Civil Rights and History Through Literary Verse: An Evening of African American Poetry

April 12, 2022 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Actor, writer, and historian, Annapolis’ own, Chris Haley, will read poems by renowned poets such as Paul Laurence Dunbar, Phyllis Wheatley, Langston Hughes, Claude McKay and Audre Lourde.  African American literature has existed and flourished throughout our nation’s history. In spite of living through often oppressive and racially violent times, people of color penned their stories of love, loss, joy and pain, and the challenge and fight for equality. Haley, a nephew of famed author Alex Haley, will deliver poems which exemplify these themes as penned by some of America’s most accomplished Black poets. In an engaging, passionate and heartfelt presentation, he will share these works along with a few he himself has written.

Registration required.
