Virtual Event: Plant This, Not That!

Any yard can be a mecca for songbirds, pollinators, and beneficial insects if you make the right plant choices. But let’s face it, if you’ve already got an existing landscape, it’s hard to know where to start. Our presenter, Shari Wilson, writes a weekly blog showcasing beautiful native landscapes and advising gardeners on common native plant swaps for boxwoods, crape myrtles, liriope and other standbys that many of us inherited with our house– or perhaps planted ourselves before we knew the vast benefits of native plants. You’ll also learn different strategies for making the switch to natives, from baby steps to going all in. Whether you’ve got a postage stamp or a sprawling property, everyone will go away with a list of must-have plants to add to their spring shopping list.​

About Shari Wilson Shari Wilson is a consultant in the environmental and public health field and an avid self-taught native plant gardener. Shari has worked for Baltimore City, Maryland and the US EPA.  As Maryland’s Secretary of Environment from 2007 to 2010, she met people across Maryland who enthusiastically want to take tangible action to improve our environment. This prompted Shari to create “Nuts for Natives,” a blog and a practical resource for gardeners who want to garden for the Chesapeake!​
