Tavern Talk & Tour with Author, Luke Salisbury

April 29, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Join the Friends of the Rising Sun Inn on April 29, 2023 when we welcome award winning author, Luke Salisbury with his book, No Common War. The book deals with issues that are fresh today—a family disagreeing on the rightness of going to war and the pain the family experiences when a son returns home, after being wounded in battle, struggling with PTSD. But No Common War isn’t about Vietnam, Afghanistan or Iraq, it’s about the Civil War and is based on Salisbury’s own family history. Moreau Salisbury was the author’s great-grandfather. The novel is based on actual events.

Foreword Reviews calls it “one of the best war novels in decades.” Kirkus Reviews says No Common War “is an engrossing, well-told story with a unique perspective.” The reader is taken on a turbulent journey through the Abolition Movement, the travails of a run-away slave, life on the road to battle, including interactions with women of easy virtue. The high point of the novel is the Battle of Antietam, the bloodiest day in American history. The reader is there in the cornfield,: “The dead lay in rows where they stood. I stepped in guts. Kicked an unattached leg. I went forward, bayonet fixed. Bodies thrashed. The ground was alive and trembling. The corn was bloody …”

Signed copies of the book will be available at an additional cost the day of the event.
