“Best Endeavour” – Mining for Answers in a Forgotten Town

May 16, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

May Lunch and Learn at the Maryland State Archives

Free Lecture – “Best Endeavour” – Mining for Answers in a Forgotten Town by Grace Fielder and Bob Richardson

Bush, Maryland in Harford County is all that it says on modern maps, but there is so much more to Bush than can be seen by today’s passing motorist. A chance find in 2016 has led to further archival research reaching back to the 1600s, including interesting finds on residents, ocean going vessels, and cannons. Join us to hear the fascinating stories uncovered about Thomas Lytfoote and Thomas Thurston, known associates in the Bush Region. One was a Catholic and one was called the “Fighting” Quaker. Exploring the collections at the archives has led to more questions, and to exciting twists and turns involving the understanding of early religion in the area. Come share the local history and explore the ” Little Stone House of Best Endeavour” with Bob Richardson and Grace Fielder, amateur sleuths and natives of Harford County.

All are welcome! Please plan to attend! Feel free to bring both your lunch and any questions you may have!

Registration: Please email or call Emily Oland Squires to RSVP to this free event at [email protected] or 410-260-6443.

Please note: A valid photo ID is required to enter the Archives building.
