County Executive Steuart Pittman invites you to attend the county's first River Days Festival! River Days are focused on providing water access opportunities for county residents through fun recreational and education events on county rivers. This event is FREE and includes fun activities for the whole family. Anne Arundel County Office of Planning and Zoning will be there with local artifacts and hands-on children's activities, along with several other county agencies and maritime organizations. Jane Austen was known for her fine needlework. Led by textile artist Judy Nevins, participants will create a small embroidered piece inspired by pattern books of the Empire period using 5 basic stitches. No experience necessary and special attention provided for those of the “sinister” hand (lefties). $30 fee, $25 for members – includes instruction and all supplies. Registration required. Vince Leggett, the founder and President of Blacks of the Chesapeake Foundation, will discuss his most recent projects: ---the preservation of historic Maryland beaches and recreation areas that include Columbia Beach, Elktonia- Carrs, and Sparrow’s beaches ---- the significant contributions of African Americans to the Bay’s maritime industries and culture. The Maryland State Archives will be hosting a Community Preservation Day on July 17th from 10:00am to 2:00pm in Annapolis, MD. Through this program, we invite members of the local community to preserve their documents, photos, and letters through digital imaging.
