MHAA AND THE FOUR RIVERS HERITAGE AREA:
- Heritage Areas make a significant difference to a destination’s economic cycle.
- The Maryland Heritage Areas Authority (MHAA) is an independent unit within the Executive branch of State government, and is administered by the Maryland Historical Trust, an agency of the Maryland Department of Planning.

- NOTE: A firm will be announced by the end of the month to carry out a much-anticipated “full picture” Program and Economic Impact Report for MHAA.

- MHAA Funding (now up to $6 million each year) comes out of Program Open Space funds, and this year approximately $5.1 million will be allocated in grants.
- Four Rivers became a Certified Heritage Area in 2001; our legal name is Annapolis, London Town & South County Heritage Area, Inc.
- Impact: since 2002, $4.9 million in state funds to our heritage area, for more than $17 million in total project funds.
