Participants will enjoy a 90-minute guided tour of the house that compares the customs and social graces of the Loockerman family, who lived in the Hammond-Harwood House in the early 19th century, with those of characters in Jane Austen novels. Barbara Goyette, Hammond-Harwood House director, and Ellen Wise, an award-winning poet, will lead a discussion on a painting in the Peale exhibit at the Hammond-Harwood House. How is a poem both like and unlike a painting? Each participant will have some time to write a poem or poetic reflection, which will be shared with the other participants. Reservations are required.
