Are you looking for a new park to explore? Then, I have just the charming park for you! Downs Park, positioned on the breathtaking Chesapeake Bay, is just a short drive away. The park has 236 acres, playgrounds, trails, and much more! The best part of the park is it is dog-friendly!
When you enter the park, you will follow a paved trail showcasing the extensive park. The trail ends with a large parking lot where you can start your exploration. My dog and I started on the shoreline; beach access to water is a perfect place to skip rocks and examine the aquatic life. From there, we traveled down the paved trails.
The trails are labeled with mileage and color to demonstrate the given route. As you continue down the trail, you will find outdoor exercise equipment. This makes the trail fun and interactive for children or those looking for a unique exercise. The only negative aspect is that there are not many trash cans throughout the trail – come prepared!
One of my favorite concepts at the park is their “adopt an owl board.” Located in the central part of the park, you can adopt an owl through a program that helps feed and care for owls. To participate, you complete a form as well as a donation.
The park offers many different types of experiences. From a fishing pier, playground, and basketball courts, to exceptional views of the Chesapeake Bay, it is a park that you do not want to miss. There is something for everyone in the family, even your furry friends.
One helpful tip is to grab a map at the gate entrance! The park is open 7 days a week from 7:00 AM to dusk. A visitor center is open from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM Monday – Friday; and Saturday – Sunday 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. There is a park fee of $6 per vehicle.
Overall, Downs Park is a great place to visit! Even in the brisk air! So bundle up and check out a fantastic park! You won’t be disappointed.
