Kunta Kinte Celebrations

Kunta Kinte Celebrations is the organization behind the annual Kunta Kinte Herityage Festival in Annapolis, Maryland, now in its 34th year. The Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival is a free, family-oriented cultural celebration for all to enjoy live music and dance performances, world foods and artisan vendors, as well as heritage and history of the African Diaspora. There are three performance areas featuring live music and dance, as well as a children’s activity area with lively educational experiences.

The festival commemorates Kunta Kinte’s arrival in Annapolis in 1767 and observes his struggle to preserve his cultural heritage. Thousands of people locally, and nationally, come to the festival to partake in the day’s activities in scenic and historic Downtown Annapolis, where Kunta Kinte landed from The Gambia, West Africa.
