Openings and Events in the Four Rivers Heritage Area this Weekend

Some of our heritage sites are open again! Last week, we highlighted a few of our partners ready to welcome you. Below are some additional reopenings and events taking place in our area this weekend.

Reopenings

Visit Annapolis & Anne Arundel County (26 West Street, Annapolis) has reopened. Area residents and visitors in search of information about Annapolis and Anne Arundel County can count on personalized service from trained volunteers once again. A maximum of eleven visitors will be allowed in the Visitors Center at one time. VAAAC plans to open the Visitors Center Thursday-Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Maryland Federation of Art’s Circle Gallery (18 State Circle, Annapolis) is open. Located on State Circle across from the Maryland Statehouse, Circle Gallery is an adaptive reuse of an 1820’s era warehouse where MFA brings current and innovative art to the community by providing exhibition opportunities and professional development for emerging and established artists. Starting Friday, July 16, enjoy their Summer Member Show live in the gallery.

Galesville Heritage Museum (988 Main Street, Galesville) is reopening its doors to the public this Sunday, July 19. The Galesville Heritage Society (GHS) invites all Galesville residents and those interested in Galesville to visit. Museum hours are 1:00 -4:00 pm every Sunday. The GHS has prepared guidelines for reopening the museum per the CDC. These guidelines will help ensure the health and safety of their docents and visitors.

Events

Celebrate all things Maryland in the William Paca Garden (186 Prince George Street, Annapolis) as Historic Annapolis presents Maryland Day: Unpaused. On Saturday, July 18, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, Historic Annapolis will commemorate the founding of the state of Maryland. Bring your friends and family to step back in time in a secret garden, where you’ll find colonials sharing their trades and demonstrating their skills. Plus, have some fun with our family-friendly activities. Advanced registration is recommended for no-contact payment, but walk-ins are welcome.

Or, celebrate a local icon! This Saturday, the Annapolis Arts in Public Places Commission will dedicate their mural project to a legend, Carlester “Buckwheat” Smith, aka The Walking Man. Come out and show your love but please wear a mask. This event will be quick due to the heat and Covid-19 safety precautions. Join the dedication on Saturday, July 18, from 10:00 – 11:00 am at Pinkey’s (1100 West Street, Annapolis).

Be sure to keep an eye out on our Facebook page for more reopenings and special announcements. As always, have a safe and enjoyable weekend!
