Join in the Planning for International Underground Railroad Month in September

The Maryland Office of Tourism has announced that it is working with partners across the United States and internationally to proclaim September as International Underground Railroad Month.
An introduction to International Underground Railroad Month was hosted by the National Park Service Network to Freedom program on May 19th and is on their International Underground Railroad webpage. The webinar can be found here.
Maryland was the first state to proclaim International Underground Railroad Month in 2019 and MOTD is very pleased to see it grow! We hope our  partners will join the commemoration and encourage visitors to travel to Underground Railroad sites to learn about Maryland’s Underground Railroad history.
For more information about International Underground Railroad Month and how to get involved, please see the Visit Maryland tourism partners webpage here. For information about Maryland’s Underground Railroad history and sites, please see these webpages.
If you have any questions, please contact Heather Ersts, OTD Partnership and Outreach Manager, at [email protected]. She plans to send more information and updates throughout the summer, so stay tuned!
