Frederick Douglass Exhibit on Display at Maryland State Archives

The Year of Frederick Douglass continues at the Maryland State Archives.
In honor of the bicentennial of the birth of Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey Douglass, the Archives has placed several rare documents on public display, including an original 1818 ledger featuring the only known recording of Douglass’ birth. Additional documents on exhibit include estate records from the Talbot County plantation where Douglass was enslaved and an original edition of My Bondage, My Freedom. Staff prepared the exhibit to commemorate the anniversary of Douglass’ June 1874 visit to Annapolis. We hope you will join them in celebrating the 200th birthday of Maryland’s own son, Frederick Douglass, by taking the opportunity to view these treasures in person. Guests may visit this exhibit of historic records in the public search room during our operating hours. To enter the Archives, please be sure to bring a valid photo ID and register with security staff.
