Family Tree Research Workshops at Galesville Community Center

Family Tree Research Workshops at Galesville Community Center

Interest in genealogy and family history is growing. These days you can refer to a multitude of websites to help you trace your roots, or you can turn to your community as an eager and invaluable resource.

Over the two Fridays, May 19 and June 9, the Galesville Community Center will be offering free Family Tree Research Workshops to the general public. These workshops are sponsored by the Four Rivers Heritage Area. They will be conducted by Lyndra Marshall (née Pratt) a genealogy expert of 55 years and Chair of the Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture.

In these workshops you will learn: The rich history of your own family and community; Getting Started; Organizing; Building family trees; Preserving and Presenting the information you collect; and much more.

These workshops are designed for anyone, of any age, who is interested in researching their family roots, learning more about their community, or discovering the secrets of the home where they currently or once lived.

All researchers who participated in the first round of workshops for Maryland Day are encouraged to return and continue building their family trees. Intermediate genealogy enthusiasts are also welcome to attend as well.
