DESCRIPTION:This summer\, the Anne Arundel County Executive’s Office will host four River Days festivals at different waterfront locations throughout the county. \n“The goal of these events is to provide public water access and inspire our residents to become stewards who will protect the health of our local waterways\,” said County Executive Pittman. “River Days provide families an opportunity to get out on the water and fall in love with the place that they live.” \nRiver Days Festivals are hosted by the County Executive’s Office. All events are free and open to the public. Each festival will feature fun activities for all ages\, including boat rides\, water activities\, environmental educators\, live music\, games\, crafts\, food trucks\, and more. Boat rides are free\, but capacity is limited and tickets will be available first come\, first served to festival attendees beginning one hour before each scheduled boat ride departure. DESCRIPTION:Second Annual Skipjack Heritage Days at The Maryland Seafood Festival at Sandy Point State Park on September 12-13\, 202 \nBuilding on a successful inaugural year in 2025\, the festival returns to Sandy Point State Park for a two-day celebration of the maritime culture of the Chesapeake Bay and Maryland’s iconic skipjack fleet. Guests will enjoy the rare opportunity to see 15 historic skipjacks and two traditional buy boats\, with public deck tours and free rides aboard historic skipjacks on Saturday from 1-5pm. All skipjack tours\, rides and the race are free to any MD Seafood Festival attendee \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Maryland Seafood Festival has been gracing the shores of the Chesapeake Bay since 1966 with delectable crab\, oysters\, shrimp\, mussels\, and locally caught fish prepared any way you like it! Come for the food and stay for the views! SUMMARY:Mysteries of the Marsh Kayak - War of 1812 History
DESCRIPTION:Discover the abundant wildlife and plants in the wetlands along the Patuxent River\, while learning about what made this waterway important to British and American forces during the War of 1812. Learn local history from National Park Service staff that most people are unfamiliar with\, including the where the British landed before marching to\, capturing & burning Washington DC.\nTrips are 4 hours long and include: general orientation\, basic paddling\, and launching kayaks. Paddlers can expect to actively paddle for 2.5 to 3 hours. Kayaks\, paddles\, PFD’s (life vests)\, and guides provided.\n\nThe Patuxent River is a relatively slow-moving river\, but paddlers must be able to propel the canoe or kayak through the water. Participants must be able to:\n• Independently participate in all activities while maintaining an appropriate and safe body position.\n• Manage all personal care and personal mobility independently.\n• Effectively communicate with leaders and other participants.\n\nFor your safety you are required to have plenty of water (at least 32 oz pp)\, sunscreen\, sun hat\, sunglasses\, closed toe shoes that can get wet and an extra set of dry clothes. If you lack any of these items\, we can deny you participation!\n\nBring a lunch/snack.\nAges 13 and up. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Fee $25 per person. Prompt program start time so please arrive by 9:45 am. If conditions do not allow for paddling\, a hike will be substituted. Registration is required.
