DESCRIPTION:The Odenton Heritage Society will unveil a display about A.D. Riden & Co.\, a family-owned business that sold lumber and building material during the first half of the 20th century. The Home Depot of its day\, Riden and its chosen location in Woodwardville\, a village south of Odenton now listed on the National Register of Historic Places\, breathed new life into the 19th-century railroad town. Riden’s success reflected the power of local businesses to change communities long before chain stores became common. The company also built houses in the area and fueled Odenton’s early housing boom as cars and trucks began to reshape “the town that railroads built.” \nThe OHS Historical Center is located at 1367 Odenton Road. Your experienced docent will share its history from the time of William Paca\, signer of the Declaration of Independence\, to present day as you wander the terraced landscape\, formal parterres\, wilderness garden\, the practical kitchen and medicinal gardens\, and orchard. Remember to pack your blankets and snacks\, and get ready to rock! \nOur events showcase local talent\, with two groups/bands performing each night from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The first band starts at 6:30 pm and the second at 7:40 pm. Best of all\, our concerts are entirely free! However\, seating is limited\, so don’t forget to bring chairs and blankets.
