We will have books\, pictures\, and portraits of George completed by fifth grade students from Davidsonville Elementary School on display. Cherry treats will be available too.

DESCRIPTION:Towards a More Perfect Union: A Series on the U.S. Constitution\nIn anticipation of America’s 250th anniversary\, we invite you to a continuing series of talks hosted by SERC archaeologist Jim Gibb\, examining our country’s often bumpy road towards freedom and self-determination. \nArticle II: The President\nSaturday\, April 4\, 2-3pm \nSpeaker: Dr. Jim Gibb\, SERC Environmental Archaeology Lab \nConvention delegates understood legislatures and legislation\, but the office of president was novel\, different even from state governors. They addressed the matter early in the Convention\, tabled it\, and then rushed through the details at the end of the Convention. In this presentation we will explore what the Constitution has to say about the presidency and why. We’ll also look at the Presidential Succession Acts of 1886 and 1947\, and the 22nd and 25th amendments. \nThis event is entirely in person. Attendees 12 years and older are welcome to join. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. Talks are free\, but space is limited\, so advance signup is required! \n

SUMMARY:War of 1812 Kayak Paddle
DESCRIPTION:Join Park Rangers from the National Park Service and Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks for an engaging kayak paddle up the Patuxent River (about 1 mile) to learn about what made this waterway important to British and American forces during the War of 1812. Paddlers will learn about military tactics and movements on the river during the war and the implications of war in Southern Maryland. The total paddle will be about 2 miles. Ages 13 and up. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Fee $20 per person. The program will be cancelled if weather and river conditions do not allow for a safe paddle. DESCRIPTION:Jefferson Holland\, Poet Laureate of Annapolis\, invites poets of all ages and levels of experience to participate in a challenge in honor of National Poetry Month. Poets will be invited to read their original work in a program on Friday\, April 24\, 2026\, at St. Luke’s Church in Eastport from 6 – 8 p.m. \n“Our last program on Maryland Day was a huge success\,” Jeff reports. “We heard 22 poets\, each reading their original takes on local history and heritage\, and we had nearly 100 poetry enthusiasts in the audience. It’s inspiring how the interest in writing poetry and attending live readings is growing in Annapolis. It’s positively magical.” \nFor National Poetry Month\, Jefferson challenges poets of all ages and levels of experience to write a short poem on this topic: “I was there…!” Write a poem from the first-person perspective of something that happened in Annapolis at any time in history\, from the pre-colonial era to present day – or even in the future. \n“Poems can be composed in any category of poetic structure\,” Jeff advises. “Choose a character to interpret – an historical figure or an ordinary citizen\, or even yourself. Tell a story from that individual’s point of view.” \nPoets must submit their intent to participate in the challenge by emailing annapolispoetlaureate@gmail.com no later than 5 p.m. on Friday\, April 10. The first 20 poets to respond will be invited to read at the program. \nFinished poems must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on Monday\, April 20.
