DESCRIPTION:We tend to think of slavery as a labor system that was confined to the American South. But it turns out that that’s not the full story. Slavery was also a fact of life in many northern colonies before the American Revolution. Northern slavery was never as widespread or as essential to the economy as it was in the south\, but it was there nonetheless. What did it look like? What forms did it take? And what forms of resistance to it were possible? Quite a few\, actually. In fact\, in 1741 white New Yorkers thought they’d discovered a slave plot in their city – a plot to burn down Manhattan’s houses\, rape its white women\, and kill its white masters.

DESCRIPTION:Wander through our 10-acre gardens\, enjoy delicious drinks\, and revel in live music stations scattered throughout the grounds. Take in the beautiful fall colors while sipping on tasty beverages. 5:30pm – 6:30pm\, ramble through the gardens and enjoy live music as Annapolis Bluegrass members jam throughout our gardens. At 6:45pm\, gather at our main stage for a showcase performance by the Black-Eyed Suzies. 21+ event. Cost: London Town Members\, $31. Non-Members\, $41. \nAdditional alcohol and snacks for purchase. Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner if desired. \nAbout the Black-Eyed Suzies: \nThe Black-Eyed Suzies are an all-female bluegrass band based between Annapolis and Philadelphia. Led by award-winning fiddle player Sarah Larsen\, the Suzies bring together tight harmonies\, driving rhythms\, and plenty of playful energy. Their shows strike the perfect balance between tradition and innovation—delighting audiences with heartfelt originals alongside fresh takes on classic favorites. \nThe band has taken the stage at venues and festivals across the region\, including Maryland Hall\, Rob’s Bluegrass Barn\, the Eastern Shore Bluegrass Association\, and Wehrly’s Auction House. Wherever they play\, the Suzies create a joyful\, welcoming atmosphere\, inviting listeners to laugh\, sing along\, and experience the spirit of bluegrass in a new light.
