DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, June 1\, the Odenton Heritage Society will celebrate German culture in Maryland with a special display about Blob’s Park\, a historic and fondly remembered biergarten\, polka palace\, and German-style eatery that flourished from the 1930s to the 2010s.  Max Blob’s unique attraction was located in Jessup\, but it drew people from Odenton and the entire region.  Thank you to the family of Max Blob who provided the information for this display. \nVisitors to the OHS Historical Center also can explore the 1912 Old Masonic Hall and OHS Museum.  Learn about the rich history of the town of Odenton\, from its railroads\, homes\, and churches to its schools\, stores\, and recreational activities.  Stroll through 154 years of history with costumed docents.  Immerse yourself in displays on the Civil War\, military history\, and local businesses like Nevamar and the Murray cannery. \nAdmission and tours to the Odenton Historical Center are always free.  We hope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Annearrundell County Free School Museum Open House
DESCRIPTION:The Annearrundell County Free School was established in 1723. It is perhaps the oldest remaining one-room schoolhouse in Maryland. Guests of all ages visiting the Free School Museum can experience educational practices from the 1700’s\, when books and paper were scarce\, and educational practices from the 1800’s\, when Reading\, Writing\, and Arithmetic were the basics of the curriculum. The Free School Museum has several displays\, including artifacts found on the property\, a collection of textbooks used over 150 years ago\, and toys that children might have played with in colonial times. The site has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1983. \nMaterials will be provided and guests can make a clay pinch pot to take home \n

How did they respond when they believed the devil’s servants were stalking their own communities? One response was\, of course\, the witch-hunt\, dozens of which pock-marked the early history of the English colonies in North America. What were the hall-marks of a witch-hunt and why is the outbreak of witch-hunting in Salem\, Massachusetts\, in 1692\, still so well-known today? Why did that tragic episode in Salem claim so many innocent lives and how have historians tried to explain its peculiar dynamics\, impact\, and legacy?

DESCRIPTION:Join Anne Arundel County for the dedication and unveiling of the Say My Name Memorial on Wednesday\, June 25th at 11am. The memorial will recognize over 1\,700 individuals who lived and died at Crownsville State Hospital between 1912 and 1965. Many were buried without names\, identified only by numbers. \nThanks to the work of Janice Hayes-Williams and the Friends of Crownsville Patient Cemetery those names have been recovered and will be publicly acknowledged. This event marks the installation of a permanent memorial that lists the names of those buried in the cemetery.
