Discover how General George Washington himself navigated relationships with the Tilghmans—father\, uncle\, and brothers—on both sides of the war\, and what their story reveals about unity\, conflict\, and the personal costs of nation-building\, \nThe Historic Annapolis Virtual Lecture Series is offered free of charge thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor. \nAbout Our Presenter: Dr. Richard Bell is Associate Professor of History at the University of Maryland and author of the new book Stolen: Five Free Boys Kidnapped into Slavery and Their Astonishing Odyssey Home.  He has won more than a dozen teaching awards\, including the University System of Maryland Board of Regents Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching\, the highest honor for teaching faculty in the Maryland state system. He has held major research fellowships at Yale\, Cambridge\, and the Library of Congress and is the recipient of the National Endowment of the Humanities Public Scholar award. He serves as a Trustee of the Maryland Center for History and Culture\, as an elected member of the Massachusetts Historical Society\, and as a fellow of the Royal Historical Society. \nCan’t watch live? DESCRIPTION:We invite you to the production of Dreams of My Soul\, 6pm June 26 & 27 \nOur Local Legacy\, LLC and the Annapolis 250th Commission\, in partnership with St. John’s College\, present Dreams of My Soul\, a period reenactment of a moment in Annapolis history during the American Revolution. \nAbout the production \nThe story takes place on February 1776 in the home of Charles Carroll at Duke of Gloucester Street and there are great tensions in the City of Annapolis\, for everyone. The City of Annapolis is quite busy\, with Maryland Legislators from all over the State and their enslaved and indentured servants. \n \nThe house is in being turned upside down at servants are packing up to return to the plantation as the British are making their way down the Bay. Mr. Carroll is out at meeting in a local tavern\, and his cohorts are concerned about the colonies and the separation from the Brits. The enslaved are concerned\, fearful and hopeful being enticed by Lord Dunmore. Will they continue to live a life in bondage? Is there a way to run?
