Virtual Lecture – Uncorked! Wine, Objects & Tradition

Leslie B. Grigsby, Senior Curator of Ceramics and Glass at Winterthur, presents a celebration of the objects and imagery created in response to society’s love of wine! Associated with religious ceremonies as well as entertainment, the beverage has been around for some 8,000 years. This lecture, originally inspired by Grigsby’s major exhibition by the same name at Winterthur (2012), presents a selection from the incredibly broad range of wine-related materials drawn from the Winterthur collections and promised gifts. From glassware and cellarettes to song sheets and paintings, the audience will share a look at how wine was marketed, consumed, and celebrated from the 1600s through the 1800s.

Registration is required. Cost to participate is $15 per household for General Admission or $10 per household for HA Members and Volunteers.

Climate Change & Agriculture: What to Expect & What We Should Be Thinking About

Shared Stewardship as an Archival Collections Management Model

Do you or your community have cultural heritage items that you don’t know how to care for? Do you want to ensure their longevity but don’t want to give up control? This webinar presents shared stewardship, a collections management model in which communities and individuals can ensure the long-term care of their cultural heritage items and retain control of those materials. Lumbee community artist and scholar Ashley Minner and hip hop artist Shodekeh discuss with archival professionals Beth Saunders (UMBC) and Ashley Todd-Diaz (Towson) how shared stewardship has made their respective archival collections possible, ensuring cultural heritage items receive long term care while being maintained in their community contexts. This event is free to attend.

Jane Austen Tour

Join an on-site tour of the house that compares the customs and social graces of the Loockerman family, who lived in the Hammond-Harwood House in the early 19th century, with those of characters in Jane Austen novels. Here We Grow: Beautiful & Delicious!

Let’s celebrate Beautiful & Delicious gardens everywhere! Annapolis Green’s Here We Grow initiative introduces a modern-day Victory Garden project to encourage people to value the land and nature by installing, developing or updating their gardens to provide beauty, food, and pollinator habitat everywhere you can. Meeting Annapolis Green’s overall organizational mission this program resonates with many people who are doing two things during this crisis: gardening and cooking! Together, let’s get excited about the bounty of a summer garden, share ideas, tips and tricks.

Speakers are Anna Chaney of Honey’s Harvest Farm and Homestead Garden’s Educational Coordinator, Heather Wheatley. They will discuss companion planting and the relationship between flowers and veggies for a truly Beautiful & Delicious garden! This event is free to attend.
