Since summer is still in full swing, now’s especially the perfect time to take advantage of outdoor concerts at the sites of both old and new members of the Four Rivers Heritage Area.

If an event is not listed below but it’s happening in our heritage area, it’s because the event is already sold out or the registration deadline has passed, so make sure to continue to check our calendar of events in advance so you don’t miss a thing!

Mr. Paca’s Garden: Summer Storytime, “The Listening Walk”

Shhhhh.  Do not talk!  Do not hurry! Get ready to fill your ears with a world of wonderful and surprising sounds in Mr. Paca’s backyard. “The Listening Walk” helps us to discover an extraordinary world of sounds in our everyday environment!  We will go for a nature listening walk and make a list of all the things we hear. Which sounds were loud? Which sounds were soft?  Come out find out!

Each program is designed for little ones (4-7 years) with a book reading, song, craft/art project, and free time in the garden. Cost to participate is $10 per Child and $5 per Adult for General Admission; $8 per Child and Free for Adults for HA Members and Volunteers; $5 per Child and Free for Adults for Family Circle Members.

Virtual Lecture – Celebration of Alex Haley, His Legacy, and Roots, from his Nephew’s Perspective

Chris Haley, performer, author, historian and filmmaker, will share personal insights on the occasion of his celebrated uncle’s 100th birthday. This virtual lecture will kick off a series of events in Alex Haley’s memory in Annapolis and throughout Anne Arundel County.

Son of the author’s youngest brother, Julius, Chris is the co-director of an Emmy nominated documentary, Unmarked, and author of the recently published book of poetry, Until The Right One Comes Along. Among other credits, he has appeared on The Wire, performed onstage with Chuck Berry, and has headed the Legacy of Slavery in Maryland program at the Maryland since 2005. As a speaker, he has spoken primarily on Black History, Genealogy, and self-empowerment. His upcoming books will focus on renewed respect for oral history and a collection of speeches he has delivered both locally and internationally. Registration is required. Cost to participate is free with a suggested donation of $10.

Lunch and Learn: Meet Maryland’s Anne Catharine Green

Anne Catharine Green became the publisher of the Maryland Gazette following her husband’s death in 1767, and her story would be inspiring in any era: a successful business woman operating in a man’s world. Add in that this “Printer to the Province” gave birth to 14 children and her fuller story is revealed. Make yourself a favorite cup of tea and tune in to celebrate this remarkable Founding Mother. Re-enactor Diane Rey will present a vivid portrayal of the woman herself. Afterward, follow along in Anne’s footsteps on a virtual tour of Annapolis landmarks important in her life. Join this engaging talk and meet this remarkable member of the Maryland Women’s Hall of Fame. This event is free to attend. Live streaming information can be found on the event’s webpage.

Tides & Tunes Summer Concert

The Tides & Tunes Summer Concert Series offers 10 weeks of popular music–from rock to folk to blues–with the incomparable backdrop of the Chesapeake Bay. Concerts are free; however, donations are gratefully accepted. Food and spirits are available for purchase. Beverage sales support the Museum’s education program. Bring a chair or blanket. The August 12 concert features Honest Lee Soul (Funk & Soul). Concerts are free; however, donations are gratefully accepted.

Summer Concert Series at Goshen Farm

Join the Free Friday Night Summer Concert Series at Goshen Farm! End your week on a high note and rock in the weekend with a whole new 2021 line-up. It’s a family-friendly setting in Cape St. Claire on the Broadneck Penisula. You can walk, bike, or drive over to hear great tunes, enjoy friends, and relax. So pack up the blankets, grab some snacks, and head over.

The August 13 concert features Guava Jelly and Apollo’s Envy. There is limited seating available, so make sure to bring chairs and blankets. Bring your own food and drinks too!
