Winter Lecture Series

February 21, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Winter Lecture: Rosemary Williams

“Maritime Annapolis: A History of Watermen, Sails & Midshipmen”: Local lore about the birth of the grittier side of Annapolis

Rosemary’s talk will paint a vivid image of Annapolis with tales of violent skirmishes between outlaw oyster poachers, the crabbing rage of the twentieth century, the slight-of-hand trick by the Secretary of Navy that brought the US Naval Academy to Annapolis, and the city’s Golden Age of Sailing. Stunning vintage images that chronicle Annapolis’ history and reveal its residents’ deep connection to the ever-shifting waters will complete her presentation.

The 2019 Winter Lecture Series at the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park will be held on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. from January 10 to February 28. You will be challenged to question and to learn by engaging speakers on eight diverse topics including maritime history, local history, science and maritime art. The schedule for 2019 is available below. Click on lecture titles for more details about the topic and speaker. Admission is $10 per person for non-members and FREE for First Mate and above members.
