This new lecture with University of Maryland historian Richard Bell first explores forms of resistance that were particular to Black women on 18th century southern plantations. It then pivots to examine the common elements in dozens of uprisings by enslaved persons or suspected conspiracies in British North America, focusing in upon the 1739 Stono Rebellion in South Carolina.
