Virtual Lecture – Hesselius and Peale: Annapolis’ American Court Painters

John Hesselius (1728-1778) and Charles Willson Peale (1741-1827) were well-known Annapolis artists. This lecture will explore the artistic lineage between the master and apprentice, the influence of the Neoclassical style of European artists, and how they became known as the premier portraitists of the founding fathers of a new nation.
