Untangling the Mysteries of Maryland Land Records

Join Rachel Frazier, Director of Reference Services at the Maryland State Archives, for a hands-on workshop and learn how to research and navigate land records.

This program will begin with a presentation about using Maryland’s online land records system. In the second half, you will dig into hands-on, pre-planned activities to experience land research first hand. Whether you’re an experienced researcher or new to using land records, there will be lots to learn!

Ranging from the colony’s recorded documents to the present day, land records have incredible value for historical, genealogical, and property research.

Rachel Frazier, is Director of Reference Services at the Maryland State Archives, has a masters degree in library and information sciences. She has has worked for the Archives for sixteen years, beginning with the Study of the Legacy of Slavery in Maryland. The Reference Department serves visitors with many needs—historical, genealogical, and legal. Rachel is the recipient of the 2024 Ancestry Leadership Award, and making archives fun, accessible, and welcoming is an ongoing goal of Rachel and her colleagues.
