Thomas Jefferson’s Birthday Architecture Tour
April 13, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Did you know Thomas Jefferson made a sketch of the Hammond-Harwood House in 1783?
It’s true! Thomas Jefferson once called Palladio’s Four Books of Architecture his bible, so he recognized the design for Hammond-Harwood House to be based on Palladio’s Villa Pisani and was inspired to make a sketch.
This tour delves into the fascinating architecture that inspired Thomas Jefferson to create modifications to his home Monticello. Visitors will have a chance to see a copy of the Jefferson drawing of Hammond-Harwood House in the exhibition “Architect and Apprentice.”
