2017 Summer Speaker Series: Ask an Archivist

July 12, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The Appraisal, Special Collections, Library, Government Publications, and Artistic Properties Departments Explored

Featuring Archivists Kathryn Baringer, Maria Day, Christine Alvey and Catherine Rogers Arthur

Have a conversation with the caretakers of our various collections. The MSA has historic records and reports created by government agencies, privately donated special collections including family papers, photographs and maps, a Maryland-focused research library, as well as fine art, artifacts and furniture. It takes special expertise to catalog and maintain these diverse materials. We invite you to meet the archivists, librarians and curators who work with our collections behind the scenes every day.

The Maryland State Archives is continuing its Brown Bag Lunch and Learn Speakers Series this summer by hosting three Ask An Archivist events. Have you ever wondered about what different departments exist behind the scenes at the Maryland State Archives? Curious about what duties the archivists perform as they care for and make accessible the collections here? Come and meet our archivists and learn more about their jobs and the inner-workings of the MSA! We have scheduled three moderated panel discussions to learn more about the important work that these employees carry out to preserve and serve all the materials at the Maryland State Archives.

All are welcome to these free events. Feel free to bring both your lunch and any questions you may have. Please email or call Emily Oland Squires to RSVP to this event at [email protected]o410-260-6443.Please note: a valid photo ID is required to enter the Archives building.
