Tavern Talk & Tea, The Burning of the Peggy Stewart

October 19 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join the Friends of the Rising Sun Inn on October 19, 2024, at 1:00PM for a Tavern Talk and Tea as we mark the 250th Anniversary of the Burning of the Peggy Stewart, Annapolis’s own Revolutionary War Tea Party! Enjoy an Afternoon Tea with local volunteer, Don Bailey, as the Friends celebrate this very special 250th anniversary commemorating the Maryland Colonies march to the Revolution.

The colonists were fighting against taxes being levied on them by King George III. In protest, rebels in Boston had disguised themselves, boarded a ship arriving from England, and dumped its cargo of tea into the water. When the Peggy Stewart arrived from England, the Rebels in Annapolis also refused to pay the tax. In similar fashion, on October 19, 1774, they burned the ship and its cargo to the water level. Here their story and Maryland’s march to Revolution.

Tickets are $48.00 per person and include an Afternoon Tea (sandwiches, sweets, and tea), with of course an American Tea, and presentation by local volunteer, Don Bailey.

$53.07 per person
