Join the Friends of the Rising Sun Inn in welcoming Diane Duray on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at 2PM for our next installment of our Tavern Talk & Tour Series, “Tea and the Revolution”. This workshop will take a look at why tea is so closely linked to the American Revolution. We will be sampling some Patriot tea and British tea.
As the colonist considered themselves British their consumption of tea was a daily ritual. British goods imported to the colonies were taxed by the Crown. The taxes on tea were high and seemed unfair to the colonists. As Britain taxed more and more, the colonists felt that they were being taxed without representation in Britain, hence the saying “taxation without representation.” The colonists boycotted tea and destroyed tea which later became known as the Boston Tea Party. Other colonies also had their own tea parties, including Annapolis. We will explore those actions of the British and the dumping of tea. We will be sampling some Patriot tea and British tea.
