Odenton Heritage Society May Open House

May 5 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

It’s graduation time, and the Odenton Heritage Society will celebrate Arundel High School’s 100th anniversary on Sunday, May 5 with an open house and a display about the school’s origins and growth. In 1924 Anne Arundel Academy, the county’s oldest private secondary school (established 1854), offered its Millersville campus to the county government for a public school. Twenty-five years later, Arundel High School moved to its Gambrills location, a modern building that has undergone many changes over the years. Learn about desegregation at Arundel High and AHS graduate Jill Brown, the first African American woman to become a pilot for a major airline. Tour the OHS community and railroad history museum with costumed docents. Explore the 1912 Old Masonic Hall. Admission to the OHS Historical Center and Museum, located at 1367 Odenton Road, is free. Hours are from 1 pm to 4 pm.
