November Lunch and Learn

Free Lecture – Lunch and Learn – Disaster Response in Puerto Rico by Conservation Professionals of the National Archives

Ms. Vicki Lee will be speaking about responding in last year’s cultural heritage recovery in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. National Archives and Records Administration was given a mission assignment by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Interior to assist in the recovery of the General Archive and National Library of Puerto Rico and the Institute of Culture of Puerto Rico (ICP). Vicki and her colleagues from several federal agencies made two trips to Puerto Rico and while another group traveled to the Virgin Islands. She will speak about the work that was accomplished there.

Ms. Lee is a Conservator in Preservation Programs (RXC) based at Archives II. Vicki trained as a book conservator at the North Bennet School in Boston, MA. She has worked at the Missouri Botanical Garden Library and Emory University, Woodruff Library. Before joining NARA, she was the Director of Conservation at the Maryland State Archives. Vicki has been a National Heritage Responded through the Foundation of American Institute for Conservation since 2008. She has responded to the Cedar River Flood (2008), the collapse of the Cologne State Archives (2009), the Haitian Earthquake (2010), Hurricanes Sandy (2012), Irma and Maria (2017) and various, much smaller, in-house emergencies.
