Lunch and Learn Goes to the Movies

September 26, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

The Maryland State Archives will offer a screening of the documentary film, “Bates, Center of Excellence: Memories of Bates Teachers.” This documentary was created by the Kunta Kinte – Alex Haley Foundation as part of its ongoing effort to promote legacy endeavors in the city of Annapolis and throughout Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The documentary is based on the reflections and recounting of memories from interviews of 15 former teachers of Bates High School. It tells the story of Bates from the prospective of educators who had firsthand experiences in teaching at this secondary school prior to the integration of public schools in Anne Arundel County, Maryland in the mid-1960s. Wiley H. Bates, the only high school for African-Americans in the era of segregation, remains a source of honor and pride for generations of city and county residents.

Please join us! All are welcome! Feel free to bring both your lunch (or your popcorn) and any questions you may have!

Please note: A valid photo ID is required to enter the Archives building.

Registration is required: Please email or call Emily Oland Squires to RSVP at [email protected] or 410-260-6443.
