In celebration of Veterans’ Day and America 250, join the Banneker-Douglass-Tubman Museum for a powerful virtual discussion exploring the complex and courageous history of Black veterans in the United States. From the Battle of Bunker Hill to the deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan, we will discuss their journey of service and sacrifice in the face of systemic inequality, a fight for a nation that often denied them their full rights at home.
Presented by U.S. Veteran and BTDM Education Coordinator, O. Abiola Akintola, the program will also turn a critical eye to the present. As America grapples with the militarization of its city streets, we will examine the unique and often conflicted role Black veterans and active-duty service members play during this time, standing at the intersection of sworn duty, community protection, and the fight for racial justice.
