En Plein Air: Painting in the Garden

June 25, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

In partnership with Maryland Hall, join us for En Plein Air Painting Workshop in the beautiful garden of the historic Hammond-Harwood House. The Hammond-Harwood House is a museum of 18th and 19th century architecture and art. Built in 1774, this National Historic Landmark presents a window into the lives of the people who built the house and those who lived in it, as well as an extensive decorative arts collection.

The program begins by examining the painting The Mill by James Peale. Participants will then be instructed in painting en plein air in the garden by Maryland Hall artists Edmond Prayb and  Melissa Gryder.

This program is free to participants thanks to the Winifred Gordon Foundation.

The Winifred Gordon Memorial Art and Wellness Series

In memory of the talented artist and a founder of the Hammond-Harwood House Museum, Winifred Gordon, this free series, open to the public, will have gallery talks on mediums including painting, ceramics, furniture making followed by a wellness activity. Arts, history, tradition, and heritage all come together in important and unexpected ways that can improve overall health.

These programs connect to the art collection to improve participants’ physical health and mental well-being.
