Edward Duffield: Colonial Philadelphia Clockmaker, Citizen, and Gentleman

September 19 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Join us at the Willam Paca House for an evening with horologist and author Robert Frishman, who will present a lecture on the life and works of the 18th century clockmaker, Edward Duffield.

Edward Duffield was far more than a leather-apron clockmaker in Philadelphia. A close friend of Benjamin Franklin, Duffield was an active civic and Anglican leader, he made, repaired and sold elegant floor-standing clocks, surveying instruments, and sundials that today are in world-class museums and private collections…including a tall case clock now on display at the William Paca House.

Mr. Frishman’s newly published comprehensive Duffield biography, which will be available for purchase, addresses all aspects of the clockmaker’s life, including the practice of clockmaking in colonial America.

Advance registration recommended; space is limited.

Cost: $15 General Admission; $12 for HA Members and Volunteers, Military, and Children (10-17)
