Registration is now open for MHT’s upcoming event, Documenting Underrepresented Communities: Presentations from Practitioners and a Roundtable Discussion. It will be held on Thursday, July 11 from 9:30am to 12pm at MHT’s offices in Crownsville. This event will gather field surveyors, architectural historians, preservation planners, and related practitioners, creating a robust discussion on current methodologies for documenting diverse communities, the existing obstacles and opportunities, and how we evolve into the future.
The following presenters will share their experiences documenting places significant to African American watermen, African Americans in northern Frederick County, Baltimore’s Chinatown, and rural Black life in Kent County, as case studies for discussion:
- Michael Chiarappa, Ph.D. (Washington College) and Ebram Victoria (Morgan State University)
- Elizabeth Comer (Catoctin Furnace Historical Society) and Edie Wallace (Independent Consultant)
- Nicole Diehlmann (RK&K) and Jacky Shin, Ph.D. (Maryland Historical Trust)
- Darius Johnson (Starr Center, Washington College)
