Join us for one or all free talks in this series!
In anticipation of America’s 250th anniversary, we invite you to join us for talks that examine our country’s road to revolution and then independence. Presentations will be hosted by the Environmental Archaeology Lab and take place in person in SERC’s 1735 Woodlawn History Center. Come for the talk and stay for the exhibits in this historic home.
When?
The next talk is February 1, 2025, 2:00 – 3:00 PM. Future dates are listed below.
Where?
In person at the Woodlawn History Center on SERC’s campus in Edgewater, Maryland.
Advanced Registration Required?
Encouraged. Space is limited!
What to expect?
Jim Gibb, head of the Environmental Archaeology Lab, gives a free, one-hour illustrated presentation highlighting different aspects of archaeological research at SERC or elsewhere.
Before the presentation we hope you’ll visit the exhibits in the Woodlawn History Center, the oldest house in the Smithsonian collection still in its original location.
February 1st Topic: The French & Indian War (1754-1763)
This is the second in a series of monthly talks that will examine the road to independence. The illustrated presentation looks at the theater of war in Pennsylvania and Maryland, including the fortifications of Washington’s Fort Necessity and of Fort Cumberland where Washington served as commandant.
