COVID-19 Resources for Artists and Arts Organizations

Many of our partners are organizations and individuals working in the arts and culture industry, whether in the visual/performing arts or other areas. Visitors have been flooding Annapolis for decades to experience the architecture lining its colonial streets, the artwork found in its numerous art galleries and historic buildings, and the many monuments that enrich the city.

Annapolis continues to be one of the nation’s top arts destinations, so we want to make sure we’re supporting an important part of our cultural heritage community. Below find resources and funding opportunities we hope will be of specific help when mitigating the impact of COVID-19 on the arts industry.

Benefits for Self-Employed Individuals

Individuals who are not usually eligible for regular Unemployment Insurance or are Self-Employed and who cannot work due to COVID-19 are eligible for a maximum of 39 weeks of benefits, which includes $600 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation.

You can apply for this benefit through the Maryland Department of Labor, but please note their system is currently not set up to process these types of applications yet, as they are formerly considered ineligible and they have to update their systems. Economic Impact Survey on the Arts and Cultural Sector

The Americans for the Arts Economic Impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) on the Arts and Cultural Sector survey is designed to collect information about the financial and human impacts that the spread of the coronavirus have had on arts and cultural organizations and artists since that date. The survey also collects basic information about the participating organizations and artists so that the data can be parsed by specific geographic regions, artistic disciplines, and budget categories.

Maryland State Arts Council Creative Conversations

Creative Conversations are discipline-specific virtual gatherings to give updates, hold the space for peer-to-peer sharing, encourage updated recommendations for action by the Maryland State Arts Council, and envision the resurgence of arts activities while dealing with the state of emergency during the COVID-19 outbreak. Open to the public, no registration is required.

Public COVID-19 Funding Assistance for Arts

Maryland State Arts Council Emergency Grants 

In response to the COVID-19 State of Emergency, the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) has created special grant opportunities that provide emergency funding to arts organizations and artists in Maryland as they adjust to losses sustained because of programming, operations, and events that have been modified or cancelled.

Due to limited funding, grant requests will be prioritized to assist artists and organizations whose needs cannot be met through funding from other relief sources. To help with this process, applicants will be asked to upload evidence that their funding requests from the State and Federal relief sources above have been accepted, denied, or deemed ineligible.

Private COVID-19 Funding Assistance for Arts

For private funding opportunities, please be sure to read the eligibility requirements and guidelines carefully before applying. The Four Rivers Heritage Area offers these resources in an effort of good faith, but does not offer an endorsement of any of the programs below.

Artly World Artist Relief Project

The Artist Relief Project is an initiative to help artists, musicians, and performers impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.A ny artist in any discipline who has been impacted by COVID19-related cancellations and closures may apply for assistance. Stipends and support will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis, with the only limitation being how much money they are able to raise.

Arts Leaders of Color Emergency Fund

Arts Administrators of Color Network has set up the Arts Leaders of Color Emergency Fund to support of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) artists AND administrators (consultants, facilitators, box office staff, seasonal/temporary employees, etc.) who have been financially impacted due to COVID-19. If you are a BIPOC artist or administrator in financial need, please access this application form to understand how to apply available money.

Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grants COVID-19 Fund

In light of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the artist community, the Foundation for Contemporary Arts launched the FCA Emergency Grants COVID-19 Fund. In accordance with their mission, FCA will continue to focus its support on artists making work of a contemporary, experimental nature. Relief will be provided to artists who can demonstrate that they have had an engagement canceled or postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Equal Sound’s Corona Relief Fund

If you are a musician who has lost income due to a cancelled gig as a result of the Coronavirus / Covid-19 outbreak, you can apply to receive support from Equal Sound’s Corona Relief Fund.

MusiCares Relief Fund

MusiCares has launched a relief fund to include lost income due to the cancellation of scheduled gigs or performances due to Coronavirus/COVID-19 precautionary measures. Music industry professionals may apply for basic living assistance (rent or mortgage). Initial grant requests can be made up to $1000 to compensate for cancelled work that was scheduled and lost.

The Photographer Fund

Self-employed photographers who are facing financial hardships are invited to apply for the The Photographer Fund, A $25,000 fund to help photographers impacted by COVID-19.

It’s important to note that these private funding organizations have a national focus, so there will be greater competition for available funds.
