Chesapeake Crossroads Plans a Seminar Series on Interpretive Themes

As our organization plans to revisit and revise our Interpretive Themes, we are planning a series of lunchtime seminars on the themes developed for recent Interpretive Plans in our area. In the first seminar, Darian Beverungen, Cultural Resources Planner in the Planning and Zoning Department in Anne Arundel County, will present the County's Interpretive Framework as presented in the document, "White Paper: Assessment of Anne Arundel County's Existing Historic Preservation Program." What is the “North County African American Trail”?

Newly-added to the Chesapeake Crossroads Heritage Area, this region, known as “North County,” has a rich heritage. The physical places where this African American heritage once flourished, however, have largely been lost.  North County’s contemporary landscape of commercial corridors and dense residential development can mask — but does not hide — its connections to historic communities of color established in the mid-1800s before the Civil War and emancipation. Annapolis Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival Returns This Saturday

The Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival will return to City Dock for the 32nd year on Saturday, September 24, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The festival is for all ages to celebrate the perseverance, education and cultural heritage of Africans, African Americans and Caribbean people of African descent.
