Odenton Heritage Society

About:

The mission of the Odenton Heritage Society is to preserve, promote and protect the history and traditions of Odenton, Maryland. Nestled between Annapolis, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. Odenton is a town filled with history dating back more than 150 years. The town grew out of the convergence of major and minor railroads that connected the three cities. This junction meant that Odenton was the place traveler’s changed trains to continue their journey. Odenton stands as a prime example of the role that railroads played in creating vibrant communities in the United States. Today, evidence of that rich history remains in older homes, churches, and businesses in Odenton’s historic district.

The society educates the public about the history of Odenton by developing programs and materials about the town’s history, publishing a membership newsletter about Odenton history, and maintaining a free museum and research room. The society undertakes preservation projects and owns three historic buildings located in the original town center: Old Bethel Church; Citizens State Bank (National Register of Historic Places); and The Old Masonic Hall (under National Register of Historic Places consideration).

Hours of Operation:

Museum-Open the first Sunday of every month 1 PM to 4 PM

Citizens State Bank-Interior open per the hours of the private business renting the property.

Old Bethel Church-Hosts an active congregation and is open per their worship hours.
