Frederick Douglass Museum and Cultural Center

About:

The Frederick Douglass Museum and Cultural Center, housed in “Twin Oaks”, the summer cottage built in 1895 for Frederick Douglass, was purchased and restored in the early 1980’s. In 1995 the State of Maryland and Anne Arundel County acquired the property and deeded it to the Town of Highland Beach as a memorial to Frederick Douglass, one of Maryland’s most famous sons.

Ben Secundy grew up as a child in the community of Highland Beach. The experience so profoundly impacted him that he is now a volunteer Highland Beach Commissioner and docent at the Frederick Douglass Museum and Cultural Center in the town of Highland Beach. This is Ben’s story and some of the history of Highland Beach that he shares in his role as a docent and guide in his Story Project Video below.
